DURBAN – A dramatic shootout unfolded on Thursday evening, January 25, 2024, on Brackenhill Road in Hillcrest, resulting in the fatal shooting of two suspected murderers by the police.

The encounter took place when officers from the Tactical Response Team (TRT) acted on intelligence pinpointing the whereabouts of individuals wanted in connection with three counts of murder. The suspects were spotted in a vehicle matching the description provided by authorities. Police, with blue lights flashing, signaled for the suspects to stop. However, instead of complying, the suspects exited their vehicle and opened fire on the police.

In self-defense, the police returned fire, and in the exchange of gunfire, both suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Their deaths were confirmed at the scene, and thankfully, no police officers were injured during the confrontation.

The suspects were wanted in connection with a double murder case that occurred outside a Molweni tavern on January 4, 2024. Additionally, they were suspected of being involved in the murder of a 50-year-old man discovered with multiple gunshot wounds inside his vehicle on Windsor Road in Pinetown back in November 2021.

In a search of the suspects’ possessions, two firearms along with 21 rounds of ammunition were recovered by the police.
