SAMRC Vacancies 2024:- The South African Medical Research Council  (SAMRC) notification issued to accept online applications for the vacant post of Senior Scientist, Unit Director, Junior Scientist. All the candidates who are eligible for the post of Senior Scientist, Unit Director, Junior Scientist are required to fill out the SAMRC application forms using the official website portal of South African Medical Research Council at www.samrc.ac.za.

01. Position:– Senior Scientist (C)

Location: Cape Town, Durban or Johannesburg

Application Deadline: 09 September 2024

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social science, environmental studies, public health or similar qualification.
  • At least 5 years research experience working in a research environment (i.e. university, science council or similar)
  • At least 4 years’ experience in project management and data management (including supervising data collection, training of field teams, budgets)
  • Experience using a variety of qualitative research methods, including conducting semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Experience with qualitative analysis and use of appropriate qualitative analytical software (e.g. NVivo)
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement
  • One 1st authored publication in a national/international peer-reviewed journal.
  • Experience with capacity development
  • Willing and able to travel
  • Code 8 driver’s license

02. Position:– Unit Director

Location: Cape Town, Pretoria, Johannesburg or Durban

Application Deadline: 06 September 2024

Requirements

• A PhD in Epidemiology or Public Health or Life Sciences

• MBCHB/Medical Specialty in a Non-communicable diseases specialty (Advantageous)

• HPCSA registration as a medical doctor (specialist), medical scientist or other allied health professional

• At least 10 years’ experience in research, of which 3 years must be in senior leadership and/or management capacity within the Epidemiology, or Public Health environment.

• NRF rated or evidence of international recognition in a focal area within Non-communicable diseases research.

• A track record of research, grants, publications – national and international (at least 50 lifetime publications (ISI journal articles, editorials or book chapters)).

• Written successful research grant applications for international and national donors to support a research Programme.

• Extensive experience in the management of projects, including the development of a multi-year programme of work

03. Position:– Unit Director – HIDRU

Location: Durban, Pretoria, Johannesburg or Cape Town

Application Deadline: 06 September 2024

Requirements

• A PhD in Epidemiology or Public Health or a Medical Speciality.

• HPCSA registration as a medical doctor (specialist), medical scientist or other allied health professional

• At least 15 years’ experience in research, of which 8 years must be in senior leadership and/or management capacity within the Epidemiology, or Public Health environment.

• NRF rated or evidence of international recognition in a focal area within HIV and other Infectious research.

• A track record of research, grants, publications – national and international (between 50 and 80 lifetime publications (ISI journal articles, editorials or book chapters)).
