Fatal Shootout in Inanda: (SAPS) Police Neutralize Suspects Linked to Recent Killings

DURBAN – In the early hours of Friday, January 19, 2024, a dramatic shootout unfolded in Inanda, resulting in the fatal shooting of two suspects by the police. The operation was in response to the killing of three people and the attempted murder of seven others in Newlands just last week.

Acting on operational intelligence, the police pinpointed the whereabouts of individuals suspected to be involved in the recent violent incidents. A simultaneous operation unfolded at Eskebheni and Emaplazini in Inanda, where police, facing gunfire from the suspects, had to take cover. In the ensuing exchange, two suspects, aged 34 and 39, sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

The recovered firearms from the suspects included two pistols, a shotgun, and 94 rounds of ammunition. The intensity of the shootout underscores the danger faced by law enforcement during such operations.

The suspects were believed to be connected to the killing of three people and the attempted murder of seven others in Newlands the previous week. The police, however, have not ruled out the possibility of additional suspects, and the search for them is ongoing.

This incident reflects the dedication of the police force in responding swiftly to violent crimes, ensuring the safety and security of the community. Investigations into the recent killings in Newlands and any potential connections to broader criminal activities are also underway.
